Nigeria 2-0 Cameroon: Super Falcons defy heavy downpour to beat Lionesses

Nigeria’s women’s football team, the Super Falcons, earned a solid 2-0 win over Cameroon in a friendly match played on Tuesday evening in Abeokuta.

Rasheedat Ajibade scored both goals in the first half, helping Nigeria begin their preparations for the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in good form. The first came from the penalty spot after she was fouled in the box. The second followed a well-worked team move, with Omorinsola Babajide providing the assist.

Despite heavy rain, the Falcons were organised and played with confidence. Players like Ifeoma Onumonu and Toni Payne helped create early chances, while the defence kept Cameroon’s attacks under control.

Several changes were made after the break, with Francisca Ordega, Christy Ucheibe, and others coming on. Cameroon improved slightly in the second half but rarely tested Nigeria’s goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie.

The match gave head coach Justin Madugu a chance to try different players and tactics. The team kept their shape and continued to pass the ball well throughout the game.

This result marks Nigeria’s 15th win in 21 meetings against Cameroon. With WAFCON qualifiers coming soon, the Super Falcons will take confidence from this disciplined performance.
