Nigeria beat Ghana to win the maiden West African Hockey 5’s

The Nigeria under 17 team beat their Ghanaian counterparts to win the Gold Medal of the first edition of West African Hockey 5s in Accra Ghana on Tuesday March 28 2018.

The boys started on fire and ended on fire. Nigeria defeated Togo 9-1 in their first game before beating Burkina Faso 17-0 and 9-1 in games played against their Western African rivals before setting up a final clash against Ghana.

Ghana qualified for a place in the final having dismantled Togo 8-1 and beaten Burkina Faso 15-1 and 13-0.

The Ghanaians who were playing in front of their fans at The Theodosia Okoh Hockey Stadium in Accra were dazed by their Nigerian counterparts 6-4 in the final.

The victory makes it the second time that coach Abubakar Ndana led Nigerian team will be beating Ghana in Hockey competition, after he orchestrated Nigeria’s women national team victory over Ghana at the African Nations Cup in Ismaila, Egypt last year.
