Nigeria, Egypt, Senegal favourites to win 2019 AFCON
Super Eagles of Nigeria, hosts and record champions Egypt as well as Senegal have been tipped as favourites to win this year’s AFCON.
The Eagles have won the tournament thrice, while Egypt conquered the continent a record eight times already.
The three teams have been named among the top six seeds for the forthcoming competition, which kicks off on June 21.
“Egypt is home but there is also Senegal, which is the best team at the moment. Côte d’Ivoire has always impressed me, not to mention Hervé Renard’s Morocco or Nigeria,” predicted Madagascar coach Nicolas Dupuis.
“I want to avoid the Egyptian team”, Ricardo Manetti told cafonline.com.
The Namibia head coach had already participated in the AFCON as a player.
“It would be difficult to play against the Pharaohs in front of their audience,” he admitted.
All 24 qualified teams for the tournament will know their first round opponents today in Cairo, Egypt, as the countdown to the big kick-off continues.
