Nigeria maintains 100% record; beats Senegal to claim 4th #AfroBasketWomen title

Nigeria’s women national basketball team, D’Tigress have won the 2019 Afrobasket title after a 60-55 win against Senegal at the Diaminiado, Dakar Arena on Sunday.

Nigeria defeated the 11-time champions in front of their fans to claim their fourth title.

Nigeria almost threw the title away after a spirited Senegal who had the support of their fans cut their 12 points deficit in the fourth quarters but another late runs from Ezinne Kalu and Evelyn Akhator ensured Nigeria sealed another title.

The victory keeps Nigeria’s 100% final record having won all four finals they have played in:

2003: Nigeria 🇳🇬 69-57 🇲🇿 Mozambique
2005: Nigeria 🇳🇬 64-57 🇸🇳 Senegal
2017: Nigeria 🇳🇬 65-48 🇸🇳 Senegal
2019: Nigeria 🇳🇬60-55 🇸🇳 Senegal

The win also ensured Nigeria win the title back to back and sealed a place at the 2020 Olympics.
