Nigeria secure big win over Scotland ahead of Women’s U-19 World Cup
Nigeria’s Junior Female Yellow Greens ended their preparations for the 2025 ICC Women’s U-19 World Cup in style with a dominant seven-wicket victory over Scotland on Wednesday at the Royal Selangor Club in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
The win sends a strong warning to their World Cup opponents, showcasing Nigeria’s growing confidence and form.
After winning the toss, Nigeria chose to field first and delivered a superb bowling display. Led by Sarah Bhakita, the bowlers restricted Scotland to just 62 runs in 18.2 overs. Lillian Ude was the star with the ball, taking three wickets, while Shola Adekunle added two. Captain Lucky Piety, Kehinde Amusa, and Peace Usen each chipped in with one wicket.
In response, Captain Piety led the charge with an unbeaten 28 runs off just 16 balls, smashing three sixes. Victory Igbinedion, who impressed against Pakistan earlier in the week, contributed 25 runs, ensuring Nigeria cruised to victory with ease.
This win against Scotland, ranked 11th in the world (14 places higher than Nigeria), follows a strong performance against Pakistan, where Nigeria came close to pulling off an upset against the eighth-ranked team.
Nigeria’s World Cup journey begins on Saturday, 18 January, against debutants Samoa at the Borneo Cricket Ground in Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia. They will then face New Zealand on Monday, 20 January, before wrapping up the group stage against South Africa on Wednesday, 22 January.
With their impressive form, Nigeria will look to carry this momentum into the tournament and make a mark on the global stage.
