Nigeria Vs Australia: Oshoala doubt, Nnadozie returns to training, Falcons camp update
SportsRation presents latest update from Nigeria’s Super Falcons camp as they continue preparations for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup second group game vs Australia.
The game between Nigeria and Australia will take place on Thursday July 27 in Brisbane.
SUPER FALCONS CAMP UPDATEÂ
- Super Falcons Goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie has returned to training after being excused following the MVP-winning performance against Canada in Melbourne.
- As seen in training, Super Falcons Coach Randy Waldrum there will be changes to the starting from the draw vs Canada but consistency is expected in the selection of the rearguard, with Michelle Alozie and Ashley Plumptre on the wings, and veteran Osinachi Ohale and youthful Oluwatosin Demehin at central.
- Whereas the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup co-hosts will have to do without their talismanic captain Sam Kerr, who has been the face on most advertisements pertaining to the tournament here, Nigeria has gained with the return of the fabulous Rasheedat Ajibade – whose goal against Cameroon in the Women Africa Cup of Nations’ quarter-finals secured Nigeria’s passage to these finals – and midfield battering ram Halimatu Ayinde from suspension.
- In what represents a concern for the Super Falcons coaching crew, Africa’s best Asisat Oshoala, who suffered a knock against the Canadians is a doubt and so could be excused for the game vs Australia. In her place, either Desire Oparanozie, Jennifer Echegini, Gift Monday and Uchenna Kanu would step in.
- Super Falcons in high spirits as they bank on unbeaten streak mentality against Australia. Nigeria has not lost in five games.
- NFF President Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau has charged the team to defeat Australia and make Africa proud. Nigeria was the only African representative at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup to avoid defeat in the opening round of matches. African Champions South Africa, Zambia and Morocco all lost their opening games.
