Nigeria vs Benin Republic: Gernot Rohr expects tough match
Benin Cheetahs coach Gernot Rohr has admitted that his team faces a difficult task when they play against Nigeria on Saturday, September 7, 2024.
The Super Eagles will host Benin at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo as part of the 2025 African Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Speaking ahead of the match, Rohr, who is Franco-German, acknowledged the strength of Nigeria’s squad. “Nigeria has more good players who play in top leagues. Benin, on the other hand, is a smaller country with a population of 12 million. So, it’s not the same,” Rohr said during a press conference.
Rohr, who once managed Nigeria’s national team, also noted that Nigeria has brought in new players who were not available during their last match in June.
Despite this, he remains optimistic. “We are ready for the match. We know it will be difficult, but we are prepared.”
The match is expected to be a challenging one for Benin, as Nigeria has a stronger and more experienced squad. However, Rohr’s side will aim to give a good fight and keep their hopes alive in the qualification race.
