Nigeria Women’s Cricket team climbs one spot in ICC T20 Rankings
The Nigeria Senior Women’s Cricket team have made significant strides in the International Cricket Council (ICC) T20 rankings, moving up one place in the latest rankings released on the ICC website.
The team, affectionately known as the Female Yellow Greens, climbed from 27th to 26th position in the rankings, marking a positive shift in their international standing. This advancement comes on the heels of their participation in the 13th African Games held in Ghana.
Despite being the lowest-ranked team among the seven participating countries, including Zimbabwe, South Africa, Rwanda, Kenya, Namibia, Uganda, and Tanzania, Nigeria showcased commendable performances throughout the games to clinch bronze.
A notable highlight was the team’s historic victory against Namibia, marking their first win in five meetings between the two sides.
Additionally, Nigeria secured a thrilling three-wicket victory over Uganda in the bronze medal match, further bolstering their credentials.
The team’s impressive showing at the African Games undoubtedly played a key role in their upward movement in the rankings.
As cricket made its debut at the Games, Nigeria’s third-place finish signaled their growing prowess in the sport on the continental stage.
Looking ahead, the Nigeria Women’s Cricket team is set to participate in the Kwibuka T20 Women’s Tournament in Rwanda, scheduled for May.
The upcoming tournament presents another opportunity for the team to showcase their talent and continue their upward trajectory in international cricket.
At the African Games, Zimbabwe emerged as the champions, followed by South Africa in second place, and Nigeria clinching the bronze medal, highlighting the competitive nature of women’s cricket in the region.
