Nigeria Youth internationals Daniel Daga and Peter Asuquo inspire Fc One Rocket to a 2-0 Akwa Ibom state FA Cup win over Ikot Ekpene United.
Flying Eagles Vice Captain Daniel Daga and former Golden Eaglets forward Peter Asuquo inspired Fc One Rocket to a 2-0 win over Ikot Ekpene United in the Akwa Ibom state FA Cup clash decided today in Uyo.
Still hurting from a disappointing home loss to Cynosure Fc in the Nigerian National League this weekend, a Youthful Fc One Rocket team dominated and deservingly handed interim Manager Itoro Xavier his first victory.
Seven minutes into the match, former Golden Eaglets forward Peter Asuquo won a free just outside the Ikot Ekpene United penalty area after his marauding run towards the box was cut off by a reckless tackle .
Captain Abang Emmanuel scored from the resultant free kick to give Fc One Rocket a 7th minute lead. Daniel Daga’s shot from outside the area went wide in the 27th minute as the Rockets pressed for a second goal.
In the 36th minute, Fc One Rocket had a goal ruled out when Joshua John dived to head home from Abang Emmanuel’s cross. The Assistant Referee correctly flagged for offside with the Fc One Rocket metres ahead of his second last opponent.
In the Final seconds of the first half , Nigerian Youth internationals Daga Daniel and Peter Asuquo combined to double the lead for Fc One Rocket. Daga’s precise pass freed Peter Asuquo on the right wing, the forward took a touch into the area rounding the goalkeeper before slotting into an empty net to give Fc One Rocket a 2-0 lead at halftime.
The second half failed to produce any goals with the Rockets comfortable with passing the ball as anchored by WAFU B U20 championship Winning Midfielder Daniel Daga. There were just five shots all blazed off target by both teams in a quiet second half.
Fc One Rocket thus secured a morale boosting 2-0 win over Ikot Ekpene United to progress to the next round of the Akwa Ibom state FA Cup where they are scheduled to face Immortality Football club.
The Akwa Ibom state FA Cup will continue on Wednesday 8th June 2022 when Sir Monty Fc takes on NPFL Champions Akwa United at the training pitch of the Godswill Akpabio international stadium by 2pm.
