Nigerian-Born Benin Striker Razak Omotoyossi Dies at 39

Nigerian-born Beninese international, Razak Omotoyossi, has died at the age of 39. The cause of his death has not yet been made public.
Omotoyossi, who was born in Nigeria but chose to play for Benin, became one of the country’s most celebrated footballers. He made 55 appearances for the Squirrels and scored 21 goals, placing him among their all-time top scorers.
He rose to continental fame during the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, where he scored all four goals in Benin’s 4-1 victory over Togo and went on to finish as joint top scorer of the campaign alongside Cameroon great Samuel Eto’o.

At club level, Omotoyossi had an eventful career across different countries. He shone in Sweden with Helsingborgs IF, playing in the UEFA Champions League, before joining French side FC Metz. His career also saw him play in Morocco, Egypt, Turkey, and Saudi Arabia.
