Nigerian footballer suffers season ending injury

Nigerian footballer Yira Sor’s season has come to an end due to injury, his Belgian KRC Genk recently confirmed.

The Belgian Jupiler League side announced that Sor sustained a groin injury during the first half of the game against Standard Liege, forcing him to undergo a scan to assess the severity of the injury.

The Nigerian footballer who joined Genk two seasons ago following a successful stint with Slavia Prague, has been a key player for the team. However, the injury setback has ruled him out for the remainder of the season.

In a statement released by Genk’s medical team, it was revealed that Sor suffered a tear in the groin, which necessitated a trip to London for a second opinion. Despite initial hopes of a possible return during the playoffs, it has been determined that Sor will require surgery, effectively ending his season.

The club expressed their support for Sor’s recovery journey and stated that they would focus on preparing him for the start of the next season. Sor, who has scored six goals for Genk this season, will now undergo rehabilitation following the surgery.

THE CLUB STATEMENT

“During the home match against Standard, Yira Sor remained in the dressing room at halftime with groin complaints. Initial investigations in the days after the match were inconclusive. Together with the club doctor, Sor therefore went to London for a second opinion. That did bring clarity. The fast Nigerian suffered a tear in the groin. While there was initially hope that we would be able to recover Yira during the playoffs, it has now become clear that his season is unfortunately over. Yira will go under the knife, after which the rehabilitation can start and we will prepare him for the start of next season.

The entire Genk family wishes Sor a speedy recovery”, the club said.

The news comes as a blow to both Sor and Genk, but the club is hopeful that the talented Nigerian will make a full recovery and return to action stronger than ever.
