Nigerian goalkeeper open to national team call-up after League title win in Benin Republic

Nigerian goalkeeper Anams Lillian has revealed she is open to a national team call-up after helping Sam Nelly FC to win the Benin Republic Women’s League.

Anams Lillian was excellent for the Benin Republic Women’s League Champions as they battled to the title at the League playoffs.

In an exclusive chat with SPORTSRATION correspondent Nsikakabasi Akpan, the shot-stopper spoke about her clubs league title triumph, her thoughts about a national team call-up plus Sam Nelly FC’s CAF Women’s Champions League participation.

” I am very happy to win the Benin Republic Women’s League title, ” Anams Lillian began.

” When I first arrived here, I set my sights on winning the title and so it’s fulfilling to win the league and qualify for the CAF Women’s Champions League. ”

On a possible call-up to represent Nigeria, Anams Lillian acknowledged she has to work hard to convince the handlers of her abilities, her clubs continental engagement an opportunity to prove her worth.

” I am not very popular back in Nigeria and so it will take hardwork and good performances to earn a call-up to play for Nigeria,” the former Ibom Angels FC goalkepeer added.

” It will always be an honour to represent Nigeria so surely if the opportunity comes, I will grab it.”

Sam Nelly FC will join other league champions for regional playoffs to reach the 2023 CAF Champions League finals to be hosted by Ivory Coast.

Anams acknowledges it’s a different challenge from the League and so will require reinforcement to the Coach Hounkponou Frederick tutored Sam Nelly FC for a successful participation.

” Playing in the CAF Women’s Champions League will bring us against other Champions, ” Anams said.

” This opponents will be different from the ones we faced in the Benin Republic Women’s League, and so we must beef up our squad and be ready for the challenge. “
