Nigerian striker Tolu Arokodare scores as Genk fall to OH Leuven
Tolu Arokodare’s goal for Genk was not enough to prevent a 3-1 defeat against OH Leuven in their second match of the 2024/2025 season. The loss leaves Genk without a win after two games, prompting disappointment among fans.
Genk traveled to the King Power at Den Dreef seeking their first win of the season. They faced an early setback, falling 2-0 at halftime due to goals from Maziz and Vlietinck.
Despite a strong second-half performance, with Arokodare pulling one back for Genk, the team couldn’t turn the game around.
Arokodare’s goal, assisted by fellow Nigerian Collins Sor, came shortly after the hour mark and offered a glimmer of hope. However, OH Leuven sealed their victory with a third goal five minutes before the end of the match.
The result sparked frustration among Genk supporters, who expressed their discontent on social media. Some fans have called for changes within the squad, including potentially offloading players like Arokodare and Alieu Fadera from Gambia.
One fan commented, “What a shameless game by Genk. Players like Tolu and Fadera don’t belong in the team. Give them away for free and buy decent strikers.”
Another questioned the club’s decision-making, stating, “The man who put together this core should also be questioned.”
Genk will need to regroup and improve their performances as they aim to secure their first win of the season.
Nigerian striker, Tolu Arokodare, who scored 15 goals and provided two assists last season, will be under pressure to deliver stronger performances in upcoming matches.
