Nigerian Teenager Ekemini Okon Arrives in Finland for European Trial

Promising Nigerian youngster Ekemini Okon has arrived in Finland for trials with a yet-to-be-disclosed club, in what could mark the beginning of his professional career in Europe.
The development was confirmed by his grassroots club, Blessed Stars Academy, based in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
According to the academy, Ekemini departed Nigeria on Monday, July 7 and landed in Finland on Wednesday, July 9, where he was warmly received by club officials in the European country.
Rising Star from the Nationwide League
Ekemini Okon, a highly-rated left-back, made a name for himself with standout performances for Blessed Stars FC in Nigeria’s Nationwide League. His displays quickly caught attention across the local football scene, earning him a reputation as one of the brightest young defenders in his age group.
Sources reveal that Flying Eagles head coach, Aliyu Zubair, had kept tabs on Ekemini ahead of the WAFU U20 Championship in Ghana. However, the player’s overseas trial opportunity meant he was unavailable for a possible national team call-up.
Eyes on a European Breakthrough
Although the Finnish club involved is yet to be officially named, hopes are high that Ekemini will impress during his trial and secure a professional contract. His move follows a growing trend of talented Nigerian youth players taking their first steps abroad through Scandinavian football.
Blessed Stars Academy, known for grooming and exporting talent, expressed confidence in Ekemini’s ability to adapt and shine in Europe.
“We believe in his talent, discipline, and dedication. This is a big step, and we are hopeful he will make the most of the opportunity,” a statement from the academy read.
What’s Next?
Should the trial go as planned, Ekemini Okon could join the growing list of Nigerian players making an impact in Finnish football, using the league as a platform for further career growth across Europe.
