Nigerian youngster signs for Swedish club Norrby IF

Norrby IF, a Swedish outfit based in Sodra, have emerged victorious in the battle for the signature of promising Nigerian youngster Prince Amos, and the deal has been confirmed.

In what can be deemed a transfer coup, Norrby IF secured the services of Amos despite interest from several clubs higher up the Swedish football league system. Notably, 26-time Allsvenskan champions Malmo and another traditional Swedish club, DjurgÃ¥rdens IF Fotboll, were also vying for the 18-year-old’s signature before he ultimately chose Norrby IF.

Amos will spend the remainder of the 2024 Swedish season on loan at Norrby IF, with an option to be bought outright from Nigerian grassroots club Tripple 44 Football Academy after the campaign.

Addressing recent speculations in the local media about potential transfers to Barcelona and Ajax Amsterdam, Olatunji Okuku, the founder of Tripple 44 Football Academy, dismissed the claims as mere rumors. He urged caution in accepting such reports and emphasized that Amos’ move to Norrby IF offers him a promising platform for development, with guaranteed playing time at his new club.

Okuku further explained that joining either Malmo or Djurgårdens IF would have seen Amos loaned out to a third-tier club in Sweden, with BK Olympic being touted as a potential destination.

While Amos had the opportunity to train with Nigeria’s Olympic National team in 2022 ahead of a clash with Tanzania, he was ultimately not included in the final squad for the U23 AFCON qualifier.
