Nigerians Abroad: Fantastic Iwobi, Dessers & Collins Sor included in top 5

Fantastic Alex Iwobi, Cyriel Dessers, Yira Collins Sor, and two other players were included in the top five Nigerian players in action during the midweek games.

Worthy of mention are Ademola Lookman, Kelechi Iheanacho, Zaidu Sanusi, Leon Balogun, Joe Aribo, Calvin Bassey who were involved for the respective clubs during midweek European Club competitions.

But SportsRation will capture the five players we considered to have been the best of them all.

5. Samuel Chukwueze (Juventus 0-3 (1-4 agg) Villarreal

As expected, Samuel Chukwueze makes the cut. The winger played a huge role coming from the bench as his Spanish side Villarreal secured a place in the Champions League last eight after an incredible 3-0 win in Italy against Juventus.

Samuel Chukwueze was very effective coming in from the bench to torment Juventus defenders.

His club Villarreal has been rewarded with a tough quarterfinal tie against Bayern Munich.

4. Peter Olayinka (LASK 4-3 (5-7 agg) Slavia Prague

Super Eagles forward Peter Olayinka opened the scoring for Slavia Prague as they suffered a 4-3 loss at
NV Arena in Austria.

Despite the defeat, the 9-man Slavia Prague booked a place in the European Conference League last eight where they will face Feyenoord.

Olayinka has scored three goals in eight Europa Conference League games.

3. Cyriel Dessers (Feyenoord 3-1 (8-3 agg) Partizan Beograd

Cyriel Dessers continued his goal-scoring form as he scored in his 4th consecutive game. The 27-year-old striker scored the first goal in Feyenoord’s 3-1 home win against Partizan.

After an aggregate 8-3 win against Partizan, Feyenoord will now play in the European Conference League last eight against Slavia Prague.

Cyriel Dessers has scored six goals in eight Europa Conference League games.

2. Yira Collins Sor (LASK 4-3 (5-7 agg) Slavia Prague

Yira Collins Sor scored a goal and assisted another in Slavia Prague’s 4-3 loss at LASK on Thursday.

He and his Slavia Prague teammates qualified for the Europa Conference League last eight despite the loss thanks to a 7-5 aggregate win.

Yira Collins has an incredible 5 goals, 2 assists in 4 Europa Conference League games so far.

1. Alex Iwobi (Everton 1-0 Newcastle)

Alex Iwobi’s goal is the only one that was not at any of the European Competitions but it is well deserving a spot at number.

The Nigerian attacker scored at the death to help 10-man Everton snap a four-game losing streak and boost their survival chase.
