Nigerians Abroad: Five of the best last weekend

What a weekend Nigerian footballers had. Wasn’t the best of weekend for Mikel Obi, Odion Jude Ighalo and Semi Ajayi but the likes of Samuel Chukwueze, Paul Onuachu, Moses Simon, Noni Madueke had a great one.

Sportsration gives a recap of the best five Nigerian footballers from last week.

5. Samuel Chukwueze (Spain, Villarreal)

Samuel Chukwueze was again in the starting line up in the second consecutive games for Villarreal.

The Nigerian winger was the provider of Villarreal’s first goal in their 2-1 win against Eibar on Saturday.

May not have been his best game yet but he was very useful to The Yellow submarines going forward and defensively.

In two La Liga games this season, Samuel Chukwueze has started both and assisted a goal.

4. Moses Simon (France, Nantes)

Nantes 2019/20 player of the season opened his goal scoring account for the 2020/21 season with a fine strike.

The 25-year-old forward scored Nantes first goal in their 2-2 home draw against St. Etienne on Sunday.

3. Noni Madueke (Netherlands, PSV)

Two weeks ago Noni Madueke came from the bench to set a record as the youngest PSV Eindhoven in this century to make two assists in the Eredivisie in one game.

Last Saturday, he started in PSV 2-1 win against FC Emmen and duly rewarded the coach’s trust in him with a goal.

At 18 he has scored a goal assisted two goals in two games for PSV Eindhoven. He was born in the UK but eligible represent Nigeria.

2. Wilfred Ndidi (England, Leicester City)

Super Eagles defensive midfielder Wilfred Ndidi continued to show his versatility after another great display as a central defender.

The 23-year-old was very useful for Leicester City as they secured a 4-2 win against Burnley on Sunday and was lauded by his manager for his effort.

“We are a bit patched up at the back but Wilfred Ndidi was incredible stepping in there from midfield.”

It is two games now for Wilfred Ndidi as a defender and in both games he played like he was the best defender in the whole of Premier League.

1. Paul Onuachu (Belgium, Genk)

Paul Onuachu was unstoppable as he chalked his 4th goal of the season with a brace in Genk’s 3-1 comeback win against KV Mechelen on Sunday.

In five league games, Paul Onuachu has now scored four goals.
