Nigerians Abroad: Nwakaeme scores again, Obi sees yellow in shock loss, draw for Kalu, Shehu; Moses, Ajayi on the brink

Nigerian players were involved for their various clubs as European league games returned over the weekend.

William Troost-Ekong was involved with his Italian club Udinese on Friday while the likes of Anthony Nwakaeme, Mikel Obi, Shehu Abdullahi, Samuel Kalu, Kenneth Omeruo were involved on Saturday including Victor Moses and Semi Ajayi who are close to relegation.

William Troost-Ekong (Udinese)

Super Eagles defender was involved as his Italian club Udinese were shredded apart by runaway leaders, Juventus on Friday.

Even without their superstar attacker, Cristiano, Juventus trashed Udinese 4-1 at the Allianz Arena in Turin.

Anthony Nwakaeme (Trabzonspor)

Anthony Nwakaeme scored third goal in the space of five days as he helped Trabzonspor beat Akhisar Belediyespor at Medical Park Arena on Saturday.

He scored the equalising goal after his side went down to spur his side to a 2-1 win which has pushed them into 4th place in the Turkish Super Lig.

Mikel Obi (Middlesbrough)

It was not business as usual for John Mikel Obi and Middlesbrough as they suffered a 2-1 home loss to Brentford in their championship game on Saturday.

Mikel Obi who was cautioned in the 38th minute was on the pitch for the entire game but failed to rescue a point as they lost to 12th placed Brentford.

Victor Moses (Fenerbahce)

Victor Moses and Fenerbahce were helpless against league leaders, Istanbul Basaksehir at Basaksehir Fatih Terim Stadium on Saturday.

Fenerbahce were beaten 2-1 as their survival push suffered a new low with the loss as they are just two points above relegation zone.

Moses was on for the entire game but failed to alter the scoreline.

Shehu Abdullahi (Bursaspor)

Versatile Super Eagles player, Shehu Abdullahi was on the pitch for the entire duration of the game as Bursaspor played a goalless draw against Ankaragucu on Saturday.

Shehu who played in the midfield in the last games for Bursaspor was deployed as a right back and he gave a good account of himself in the barren draw.

Semi Ajayi (Rotherham)

The defender turned midfielder was unable to help his side on Saturday as they go down 2-0 to Sheffield United.

He was on the pitch the entire duration of the game but couldn’t save his side. The loss Rotherham on the relegation spot.

Samuel Kalu (Bordeaux)

Super Eagles attacker Samuel Kalu was introduced in the second half in Bordeaux 1-1 away draw against Monaco at Stade Louis II.

Samuel Kalu was introduced in the 61st for Francois Kamano, barely a minute after he came on Bordeaux were rewarded with a penalty that we converted by Jimmy Briand.

Kenneth Omeruo (Leganes)

Super Eagles defender Kenneth Omeruo was involved at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium where Leganes we’re beaten 1-0.

Unfortunately it was Kenneth Omeruo who caused the penalty that resulted in the only goal of the game.
