Nigerians in Europe: Otubanjo nets again as Olayinka, Sor feature

13 Nigerian players feature in UEFA Europa League/Europa Conference League

Matchday three of the 2022-23 UEFA Europa League and UEFA Europa Conference League took place across Europe, and 13 Nigerian stars took to the pitch for their various clubs.

Yusuf Otubanjo scored his second goal in two games for Pyunik in their 2-0 win over Zalgiris Vilnius. The 30-year-old scored in the 61st minute before being withdrawn after 86 minutes of action. Kehinde Oyewusi featured for the whole duration of the match for Zalgiris Vilnius.

Victor Boniface played the full 90 minutes as Union Saint-Gilloise completed an impressive comeback to defeat Braga 2-1 in their meeting in Portugal.

Bright Osayi-Samuel played for 72 minutes as Fenerbahce picked up a 2-0 win over AEK Larnaca. Victor Oluyemi Olatunji was introduced in the 69th minute for Larnaca.

FC Sheriff Tiraspol featured two Nigerian forwards in their 2-0 defeat at home to Real Sociedad. Iyayi Believe Atiemwen played for 66 minutes before he was substituted. Akanbi Rasheed lasted the entirety of the match.

Moses Simon played only 69 minutes as an out-of-sorts FC Nantes fell to German outfit SC Freiburg in their Europa League clash.

Samuel Chukwueze started and lasted 65 minutes for Villarreal in their outstanding 5-0 win over Austria Wien.

Ezekiel Henty lasted 85 minutes for Apollon Limassol as they fell to a 3-2 defeat at the hands of AZ Alkmaar.

Uche Agbo made another appearance off the bench for Slovan Bratislava in their 2-0 win over FC Basel. The defensive midfielder was introduced as a substitute in the 74th minute.

Nigerian trio Peter Olayinka, Moses Usor and Collins Yira Sor featured for Slavia Prague in their narrow 1-0 defeat to CFR Cluj. While Olayinka and Usor started the match, Sor was introduced as a substitute after 61 minutes of the match.

Francis Uzoho was an unused sub as Omonoia Nicosia lost 2-3 at home to Manchester United in their Europa League clash. Also, Anderson Esiti did not make an appearance off the bench for Ferencvaros in their 4-1 defeat to Crvena Zvezda.
