Nigerians react as Joe Aribo cuts dreadlock

Nigerians have reacted to a picture of Joe Aribo after he cut his trademark dreadlock for a new low haircut.

On Friday September 22, 2023, picture of the Southampton FC midfielder surfaced on social media, and attracted  comments from football fans.

Most of the comments are from his countrymen, who are surprised at his new look, eleven days after he came on as a substitute, in Nigeria’s 6-0 spanking of Sao Tome and Principe in Uyo.

Aribo is pictured in training with Southampton FC, ahead of this weekends English Championship game. The Nigerian midfielder has played six matches this season for the Saints, who have stumbled in their chase for instant promotion back to the Premier League.

On Aribo’s new hairstyle, majority opinion is that, he looks better and more matured than on dreadlock.

Some fans linked his decision to cut the hair to a trending case in Nigeria, involving popular dreadlocked musician Naira Marley, who is in negative spotlight following the death of Mohbad.

Other Nigerians are prophecying a positive turnaround in career fortunes for Joe Aribo, who has struggled to replicate the form that saw him fire Glasgow Rangers to the UEFA Europa League final in 2021/2022 season.
