Nigerians to decide Peseiro Future – NFF President

President of the Nigeria Football Federation – NFF Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau has declared that decision on the future of Super Eagles Head Coach Jose Peseiro will be made by Nigerians.

Gusau made this disclosure in an interview with  during an interview on the Gbamm! LovingFootball™ show. This comes with few days to the expiration of the Portuguese managers current contract with Nigeria.

Majority of Nigerians have not had a rosy relationship with Peseiro following a run of four wins and five loses in his nine games in charge of the Eagles and will now have opportunity to decide his future if the NFF goes ahead with the plans relayed by its President.

“We have that plan to push it to Nigerians and to hear their views [about the decision],” Gusau stated.

“We tried the foreign coaches and also the home-based coaches, and it seems all were having some kind of problems.

But maybe we did not get it right in the area of getting the right person [for the role]. But we are surely going to push it to the public whether to continue with Peseiro or let him go.” the president declared.

In the event Peseiro is allowed to leave, the NFF President went on to disclose public opinion will also be sought before the appointment of a new Head Coach.

“And on the question of going for an indigenous coach, we are still going to push that to Nigerians on the phone, to tell us ‘Do you think going for a Nigerian coach would be best for Nigeria? “ Gusau added.

“Then we would look at it as a board and come out with a decision.” the NFF President said.

Nigeria has secured qualification for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nation tournament in Ivory Coast and so will look to sort the coaching situation early enough so it doesn’t affect preparations for the tournament.
