Nigeria’s Daniel Bameyi Named in CAF U-20 AFCON Best XI

Captain of Nigeria’s U-20 team, Daniel Bameyi, has been named in the Best XI of the 2025 CAF U-20 Africa Cup of Nations, SportsRation reports.

Bameyi’s strong performances throughout the tournament helped him earn a spot in the team chosen by CAF’s Technical Study Group.

South Africa, who won the tournament, had the most players selected. Four of their players made the list, including goalkeeper Fletcher Lowe, who kept three clean sheets and made 30 saves. He was also named the Best Goalkeeper of the tournament.

Midfielder Tylon Smith from South Africa, who scored the winning goal in the semi-final against Nigeria, was named Best Player of the tournament.

Morocco, who finished second, also had four players in the Best XI. Their style of strong, possession-based football was praised.

Sierra Leone’s striker Momoh Kamara, who scored the most goals (4) in the competition, was also included.

Other players selected came from Egypt, South Africa, and Nigeria.

South Africa’s coach, Raymond Mdaka, was named Best Coach for leading the team to their first U-20 AFCON title.
