Nigeria’s D’Tigers roar into Afrobasket
Become first team to qualify for 2021 Afrobasket
Nigeria’s male basketball team, D’Tigers booked their place in the upcoming 2021 Afrobasket in style as they became the first and only team to go through unbeaten after defeating Mali 74-54 in the last game of the qualifiers. D’Tigers qualified with a 6-0 record, having won all six of their qualifying matches.
The team’s 37 year old captain, Ike Diogu led by example as he put up a double double for the side, scoring 20 points and 11 rebounds as they recorded a sixth successive victory in the qualifiers. Mike Gbinije also chipped in with 10 points in the game for the D’Tigers.
Ranked as the 23rd best team in the world, they finished 1st in their group and now progress to the Afrobasket tournament looking to win it for the first time since 2015.
