Nigeria’s D’Tigress and the 11 other qualified women’s basketball teams for Paris 2024 Olympics games
Nigeria’s D’Tigress and 11 other teams have been confirmed for the Paris 2024 Olympic games women’s basketball event.
FIBA announced the final list of national teams that have secured their spots in the Women’s Olympic Basketball Tournament for Paris 2024.
This milestone was achieved following the successful completion of the four FIBA Women’s Olympic Qualifying Tournaments held in Antwerp, Belgium; Belem, Brazil; Xi’An, China; and Sopron, Hungary.
A total of 12 teams will compete in the tournament, with 11 of them having previous Olympic experience. Notably, Germany will make their historic debut at the Games, marking a significant new chapter for the team.
The last five tickets to the Olympic Games were secured by Canada, Germany, Japan, Serbia, and Spain on Sunday. They join Australia, Belgium, China, Nigeria, and Puerto Rico, who had already qualified on Friday and Saturday.
The USA, as the reigning FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup 2022 champions, and France, as the hosts of the Olympic Games, had already secured their spots in the Olympics prior to the FIBA Women’s Olympic Qualifying Tournaments.
The full list of teams participating in the 2024 Women’s Olympic Basketball Tournament is as follows: Australia, Belgium, Canada, China, France, Germany, Japan, Nigeria, Puerto Rico, Serbia, Spain, and USA.
Individual excellence was also recognized, with players such as Emma Meesseman (Belgium), Gabby Williams (France), Mai Yamamoto (Japan), and Ezi Magbegor (Australia) receiving TISSOT MVP awards for their outstanding performances during the qualifying tournaments.
The Women’s Olympic Basketball Tournament Paris 2024 is scheduled to take place from July 29 to August 11, promising exciting basketball action on the international stage.
D TIGRESS JOURNEY TO PARISÂ
Nigeria’s female national basketball team, D’Tigress, qualified for the basketball event of the Paris 2024 Olympics. and so will be making a third Olypic games appearance.
D’Tigress achieved the feat, having defeated Senegal 72-65 in their first game and Senegal losing to Belgium 66-92 at the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Games in Belgium.
Nigeria had lost 109-44 to the FIBA 2022 World Champions, the U.S.A., but despite this loss, D’Tigress, already with their opening game victory, booked their place in Paris.
With the ticket sealed, th big question now is, Can Nigeria’s D’Tigress finally win a game at the Olympic games?
