Nigeria’s Falconets to clash with Ghana’s Black Princesses in African games women’s football final

In the ongoing 13th African Games in Ghana, Nigeria’s women Under 20 side, the Falconets, are set to face off against the Black Princesses of Ghana in the final of the Women’s Football event.

Under the guidance of coach Christopher Danjuma, the Falconets continued their dominant run in the tournament by defeating a resilient Uganda 2-0 in the first semi-final game at the Cape Coast Stadium, the venue for the women’s football event.

Despite facing a sturdy defense from the Queen Cranes of Uganda, led by Motunrayo Ezekiel of Rivers Angels, the Falconets broke the deadlock sixteen minutes from time when substitute Adaobi Okah found the back of the net, giving Nigeria the lead.

Another substitute, Chiamaka Okwuchukwu, sealed the victory with a goal in the 90th minute, securing the Falconets’ spot in Friday’s final as they aim to defend the gold medal they claimed in 2019.

In the final showdown, Nigeria will square off against their long-standing rivals, Ghana, for an opportunity to clinch the coveted Gold Medal. The match is scheduled to take place on Thursday evening at the same venue, the Cape Coast Stadium.

Ghana secured their place in the final by defeating Senegal 3-1 in the evening game, dominating the match from start to finish. Tracey Twum opened the scoring for the Black Princesses in the 16th minute, capitalizing on a cross from the right. Ophelia Amponsah extended Ghana’s lead just before halftime, slotting the ball into the bottom corner after a well-timed through ball.

Although Senegal managed to pull one back through a penalty from Rokhyatou Kande in the 53rd minute, Amponsah quickly restored Ghana’s two-goal cushion with another goal two minutes later.

The highly anticipated final between Nigeria and Ghana promises to be an intense battle for supremacy in women’s football in Africa. The match is scheduled to kick off on Thursday evening at 8:00pm local time, 9:00pm in Nigeria, at the Cape Coast Stadium.
