Nigeria’s Jennifer Echegini makes history with Juventus transfer

In a groundbreaking move, Juventus has officially announced the signing of Nigeria’s Jennifer Echegini, marking her as the first Super Falcons star to join the prestigious Italian club.

The announcement, made through the club’s official website, reveals that Echegini has inked a two-and-a-half-year contract, keeping her with Juventus until 30 June 2026, and she will proudly wear the coveted number 26 shirt.

The transfer comes after months of speculation, with Juventus always keen on signing the Nigerian International following a successful World cup.

Born in England in 2001, Echegini has distinguished herself as a standout midfielder and is now the latest addition to Joe Montemurro’s Juventus Women’s team.

Hailing from Florida, USA, she played a pivotal role for the Florida State Seminoles over the past two years, showcasing remarkable achievements that caught the attention of the football world.

Echegini’s stellar performances in the United States were underscored by impressive statistics and accolades.

A finalist for the MAC Hermann, the highest honor in US university football, she recently clinched the Honda Sport Award for women’s football in December. Her achievements include being named ACC Tournament MVP, “ACC Offensive Player of the Year,” and securing a spot on the “United Soccer Coaches First Team All-American.”

Closing out the year 2023 with an impressive tally of 16 goals, Echegini etched her name in her university’s history, securing the eighth-best result. Notably, she became the first among the Florida State Seminoles to achieve double figures in goals for multiple seasons since Deyna Castellanos, who currently wears the number 10 jersey at Manchester City.

Having been a valuable member of the Super Falcons squad in the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, where Nigeria reached the knockout rounds without losing a game in regulation time, Echegini’s move to Juventus marks a historic moment in her career and adds a new dimension to the club’s women’s team.
