Nigeria’s mixed 4x400m relay team shines at World relays

Nigeria’s mixed 4x400m relay team made waves at the recent World Relays, landing as the country’s top-performing squad.

Led by Chidi Okezie, the team, including Samuel Ogazi, Ella Onojuvwevwo, and Esther Joseph, not only delivered an outstanding performance but also secured a mouth-watering cash prize.

Their remarkable run saw them set a new African Record (AR), clocking an impressive time of 3:12.87.

Despite finishing fourth in the final, their achievement was celebrated as they surpassed Nigeria’s previous AR of 3:13.26. This earlier record was set by a different quartet during the African Games in Ghana.

The USA clinched the top spot with a new Championship Record of 3:10.73, while the Netherlands and Ireland secured silver and bronze, respectively.

By finishing in fourth place, Nigeria’s mixed 4x400m relay team secured a spot at the Paris Olympics and earned a cash prize of $8000. This achievement marks a significant milestone for the team and reinforces Nigeria’s presence on the global athletics stage.
