Nigeria’s Obinna Nwobodo Signs New FC Cincinnati Contract Until 2027

Nigerian midfielder Obinna Nwobodo has extended his contract with Major League Soccer side FC Cincinnati until 2027, with an option to stay an extra year.

The 28-year-old joined the American club in 2022 from Turkish side Göztepe and has since become an important part of their team. His original contract was due to end this summer, but the club has now confirmed he will remain at TQL Stadium for at least two more years.

Nwobodo, a former Flying Eagles player, is known for his hard work and strong presence in midfield. Though he hasn’t scored or assisted in his seven league matches this season, he remains a key player for Cincinnati, who currently sit top of the Eastern Conference with 28 points from 13 games.

In a statement, the club’s general manager Chris Albright praised the Nigerian’s impact:

“Since arriving three years ago, Obi has been a fundamental part of our success.
He’s relentless in how he approaches the game, on and off the field, and he’s an exceptional teammate and leader.
We’re delighted to have Obi and his family stay in Cincinnati.”

Nwobodo’s new deal shows the club’s confidence in his role as they push for more success in the MLS.
