Nigeria’s Super Falcons Aim for 10th WAFCON Title in Morocco
Nigeria’s Super Falcons are getting ready for the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), which kicks off on 5 July in Morocco. The team has been told to go all out for victory in every match.
Nigeria has a strong history in the competition, having won it nine times, more than any other country. However, in the last edition, they only managed fourth place, while South Africa took home the trophy.
This year, the Nigerian team is hopeful of returning to the top, with the Nigeria Football Federation calling their 2024 campaign “Mission X”, in a bid to win their 10th title.
Star striker Asisat Oshoala, now playing for Bay FC in the USA, is focused on scoring goals for the team.
“I want to score goals – it’s what I love to do,” she told NFF TV. “It’s been a while since I played for the national team because of personal matters, but now I’m ready to help the team win.”
Oshoala has also encouraged her teammates to give their best in every game.
“My advice is always the same: give 100% on the pitch, try to win every match, and treat every game with equal importance.”
Oshoala, one of Africa’s greatest female footballers, had a successful career at Barcelona, scoring 117 goals in 162 games and winning the UEFA Women’s Champions League before moving to the US in 2024.
