Nigeria’s U-17 Women’s Coach Bankole Olowookere reveals focus ahead of South Africa clash

As Nigeria prepares for their FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup qualifier against South Africa, head coach Bankole Olowookere has reaffirmed his dedication to building a strong team and leaving a lasting mark on Nigerian football.

Olowookere highlighted that, aside from technical skills, it is also important to instill character and discipline in the players. He aims for them to excel not just on the field but to also represent Nigeria with pride and professionalism.

Challenges in Flamingos Camp

Olowookere shared that it has been challenging to bring the full squad together for training, as some players are still involved in league matches with their clubs. Despite this, he remains confident in the team’s ability to perform and showcase Nigeria’s strength on the global stage.

“The turnout for the camp has been a bit low because some of the teams are still playing league matches,” Olowookere explained. “We are giving permission for the girls to finish their matches before returning to camp.”

Although the camp is smaller than usual, Olowookere is focused on making the most of the players available. “We have a few players in camp, but some are still on their way. It’s not a large camp, but it’s manageable, and we’re heading in a good direction.”

Changing the Mentality of Nigerian Football

Olowookere’s goal goes beyond the upcoming qualifier. He wants to change how Nigerian football is viewed at the youth level and hopes the Flamingos can showcase the country’s potential.

With a strong performance against South Africa, the team hopes to prove Nigeria’s dominance and earn a place in the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.

With the Flamingos’ fighting spirit and Olowookere’s leadership, expectations are high as they prepare for this crucial match.
