The Nationwide League One (NLO) has come down hard on Citiboi FC following incidents of violence and vandalism after their goalless draw against Ibom Youths FC on Friday, May 2, 2025, at the Uyo Township Stadium.
Tempers flared at the end of the Matchday Four encounter as Citiboi FC officials, led by the club chairman, stormed the match officials’ dressing room in protest. The situation turned violent, with reports confirming that match officials were assaulted and stadium property was damaged.
In a swift response, the NLO issued a provisional suspension to the Chairman of Citiboi FC and two players involved in the incident, pending a full investigation by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Disciplinary Committee.
In addition, the league ordered Citiboi FC to:
-
Fully repair all damaged facilities at the Uyo Township Stadium within 48 hours or face expulsion from the league.
-
Pay the medical bills of the injured Assistant Referee Two.
-
Pay a fine of ₦100,000 to the NLO within the same 48-hour window.
The decision of the league organizers affirms its commitment to promoting discipline and sportsmanship as the 2025 season continues at various centres across Nigeria, including Uyo.
