NNL Super 8: Barau FC and Yobe Desert Stars share spoils
The 2025 Nigeria National League (NNL) Super 8 playoffs got underway on Saturday at the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba, Delta State, with a cagey opening fixture that saw Yobe Desert Stars and Barau FC settle for a goalless draw.
In what proved to be a slow start to the high-stakes tournament, both teams struggled to find rhythm and create clear-cut chances. Despite a handful of half-opportunities on either end, neither side could break the deadlock, and the match ended 0-0 — a result that leaves both teams with a point apiece.
The Super 8 playoffs serve as the final hurdle in the NNL season, with the top four teams earning promotion to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) next season. The competition also determines the overall NNL champions.
Saturday’s opening-day action features three more fixtures, with Wikki Tourists set to face Doma United at 11:30 AM, Crown FC taking on Kun Khalifat FC at 2:00 PM, and Osun United battling Warri Wolves at 4:00 PM.
