No Boniface! No Problem! for Bayer Leverkusen in Europa League win over AS Roma
Nigerian stars Victor Boniface and Nathan Tella were part of the Bayer Leverkusen team for their win against AS Roma in the first leg of their Europa League semifinal clash in Rome.
Even though Victor Boniface was benched for the entire game, Bayer Leverkusen still managed to win 2-0 against AS Roma.
Goals from Florian Wirtz and Robert Andrich helped Bayer Leverkusen secured a Europa League semi-final first-leg lead the recently crowned German Bundesliga Champions.
The first goal came just before halftime when Florian Wirtz took advantage of a mistake by AS Roma’s defense. Bayer Leverkusen kept their lead until halftime despite AS Roma’s strong pressure.
In the second half, Bayer Leverkusen scored again with a fantastic long-range shot from Robert Andrich. This gave them a comfortable lead.
Although Victor Boniface didn’t come of the bench, his Super Eagles teammate Nathan Tella came on late in the game.
Bayer Leverkusen’s win in Rome gives them confidence for the second leg in Germany. AS Roma now faces a tough challenge to catch up and reach the final.
Bayer Leverkusen’s impressive performance has put them in a good position to make it to their first European final in over twenty years.
