No Trouble for Boniface at Bremen Despite Social Media Buzz

Reports in Germany on Wednesday claimed that Nigerian forward Victor Boniface had been called in by Werder Bremen after some of his recent social media posts caused debate.
The 24-year-old striker, on loan from Bayer Leverkusen, joined Bremen in the summer to lead their attack. Some German media suggested his online comments unsettled the club.
According to Bild, Boniface was expected to meet club officials to explain himself after posting cryptic and, in some views, disrespectful remarks.
One particular post drew a lot of attention. On Instagram, Boniface wrote:
“If you waste your money on too many women, you will not achieve anything in life. Find yourself one or two women and settle down. At most three women, or if you are going through a lot, four is also okay.”
While many Nigerian fans saw it as typical of Boniface’s humour, supporters in Germany viewed it differently. The post even caught the attention of global music star Drake, who reacted with a laughing emoji. Boniface jokingly replied, “Bro, dm for more advice,” before later showing off a branded OVO bag from the rapper.
Bremen Responds
However, German outlet Deichstube reported on Thursday that Bremen has no concerns about Boniface’s social media activity. The club confirmed that no meeting had been arranged with the striker over the posts.
Instead, Bremen want Boniface to focus on his performances on the pitch. His start at the club has been mixed. He provided an assist in the 4-0 win over Borussia Mönchengladbach on his debut but was criticised by coach Horst Steffen after the 3-0 loss to Freiburg.
“He was too much everywhere. He needs to stay more in the centre. It was not as I wanted,” Steffen explained.
Despite this, the coach praised Boniface’s energy in training and believes his role will grow as he adapts. Managing director Clemens Fritz also described him as an important signing and assured that the club will support him to find consistency.
Boniface, who chose the No. 44 shirt at Bremen after his preferred 22 was taken, is expected to feature again on Friday night when Bremen face Bayern Munich.
