NPFL 22: MFM in serious trouble after Gombe United bashing

Olukoya Boys rooted to bottom of NPFL standings after 10 matches

NPFL newcomers Gombe United handed out a heavy beating to Lagos-based outfit Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries (MFM) FC, winning 3-0 at the Pantami Stadium in Gombe in their NPFL Matchday 10 encounter.

Before the start of the match, both sides were separated by only three points. Gombe United had picked up nine points from their opening nine matches in the NPFL and were in 16th place on the log, and MFM had six points and were bottom of the pile.

The home side raced into an early lead through influential captain and top scorer AbdulAzeez Yusuf in the 10th minute of the encounter against the team from Lagos.

The NPFL newcomers doubled their advantage in the 42nd minute of the encounter through Aminu Mohammed before Yusuf added a third just two minutes later to round off the scoring in style and compound the woes of the Olukoya Boys following a terrific first half performance.

Gombe United have now jumped up to 14th place, ahead of Abia Warriors on goal difference after the conclusion of the NPFL Matchday 10 fixtures. Captain Yusuf has now scored six goals in only 10 matches for the club this season, a respectable return for a club in its first season back in the top-flight. The forward is behind only Rivers United hotshot Ishaq Rafiu Kayode, who has nine league goals, on the goalscoring charts in the NPFL.

MFM FC are a club deep in crisis and are rooted to the bottom of the NPFL table after 10 matches this season. The Olukoya Boys are currently without a football director after the MFM General Overseer Dr. Olukoya requested that he step aside following their poor start to the NPFL season. They need a quick turnaround of fortunes to save their season as the club’s fans have confirmed that if things continue in this manner, the club may soon find itself out of the NPFL.
