NPFL: Alimi, Alassan, Alakwe and Alfred All Listed For VAT Wonder Goal Award

Four goals, largely executed from individual brilliance have been shortlisted for the Match Day 16 VAT Wonder Goal awards of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL)

On the polls for voting are goals from Sunshine Stars Sikiru Alimi, Kano Pillars Ibrahim Alassan, Chijioke Alakwe of FC IfeanyiUbah and Stephen Alfred of Kwara United.

Interestingly, the clash in Nnewi between IfeanyiUbah and  Sunshine Stars accounted for two of the four goals that have been shortlisted.

Alimi had opened scoring for the visitors on the 18th minute, reaching a pass after outpacing his marker, and then did a cut back to set up a right footed shot from the edge of the box for Sunshine Stars’ lone goal in the 3-1 defeat.

Alakwe’s strike, one of the three for FC IfeanyiUbah was a product of another individual effort and pace as he got to the end of a long pass from his half of the field, outraced the defenders for a volley that goalkeeper Acheje failed to deal with.

Kano Pillars salvaged a point in Jos against Wikki Tourists, thanks to an equalizer by Alassan after Nafiu Kabuga had converted from the spot for Wikki. Alassan ensured a point for Sai Masu Gida when he made a spirited sprint to reach a Chris Madaki pass, outpaced Wikki Tourists defenders and kept cool nerves under pressure of the chasing lot to hit a low shot to the left side of the keeper.

In Ilorin, Alfred preserved Kwara United’s unbeaten run under new coach in the match that Enyimba took the lead off an Ikechukwu Ibenegbu penalty. Alfred perfectly connected a perfectly laid pass from Ohanu before unleashing a left footed hit from outside the box that left Ikechukwu Ezenwa stranded.

Video clips of all four goals have been uploaded to the NPFL website (www.npfl.ng) and twitter handle (@lmcnpfl) for voting.  Voting will end at midnight on Wednesday, April 18.

The VAT Wonder Goal is a community service initiative of the League Management Company (LMC) supported by the Federal Inland Revenue Services (FIRS) to promote NPFL community engagement and drive the tax education campaign of the FIRS amongst the football fan base.
