NPFL club official banned over match-fixing claims

The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has banned Lobi Stars media director, Emmanuel Ujah, from taking part in any of its activities.

Ujah was punished for making false match-fixing accusations against Lobi Stars players during an interview. His comments were found to have breached the league’s rules and code of conduct.

According to the NPFL, Ujah later admitted that he spoke without proper evidence and made the claims in error. He also promised to behave more responsibly in the future.

“Ujah, on his own, admitted to granting the interview in error and confessed he had no proof of match-fixing,” the NPFL said.

After carrying out an investigation, the league body announced that Ujah has been banned indefinitely from all NPFL-related activities. He has also been instructed to write an apology and officially withdraw the false allegations.

Lobi Stars, who were involved in the issue, have been relegated to the Nigeria National League (NNL) following the end of the 2024/25 NPFL season.
