NPFL: Katsina United compounds Niger Tornadoes woes

Katsina United have compounded Niger Tornadoes woes after they condemned the Minna club to fourth straight loss of the season.

It was a thrilling encounter at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium saw Katsina United take their unbeaten home run in the Nigeria Professional Football League to 23 after they beat Niger Tornadoes 2 – 0 in one of the Matchday 7 fixtures.

An early goal by Katsina United through Chinedu Ajana on seven minutes put The Ikon Allah Boys on the back foot as they chased the game till the end.

It was Katsina United who dominated the proceedings from the blast of the first whistle as they combined well with crisp passes in the middle of the park.

Katsina United trio, Destiny Ashadi, Lukman Muhammed and Usman Barau, combined brilliantly to dictate the pace of the game.

The first clear-cut chance of the game on seven minutes fell for the hosts to take the lead after Chinedu Ajana rose highest to connect a lofty cross by Joshua Agboola into the box and put the ball at the back of the net with a textbook header.

Babawo Ibrahim did brilliantly on the left on 22nd minutes to dribble past three men in yellow, but is dangerous cross into the box was intercepted and cleared by Ikechukwu Nwachukwu.

Sunday would later be cautioned with a yellow card for a career-threatening tackle on Faisal Sani on 41st minutes.

Yinka David made a save to deny the visitors an equalising goal from a free-kick just outside Katsina United box as Chinedu Ajana’s goal separated the two teams going into the break.

Eric Dufegha doubled Katsina United advantage just three minutes into the second half when he controlled a clever through pass by Joshua Agboola and rounded the ‘keeper, before tapping the ball into an empty net. He has taken his goals’ tally for the season to two.

Coach Erasmus Onuh introduced fresh legs into the game, but the changes could not affect the score line, rather Katsina United would have increased their lead through Destiny Ashadi’s left-footed strike that eventually hit the side netting.
