NPFL: Katsina Utd fail at Yobe Stars

Katsina United fail at Yobe Stars
Katsina United have continued to struggle on the road after they lost 1-0 at Yobe Desert Stars in an NPFL Matchday 6 decided at the August 27th Stadium in Damaturu.

‘The Chanji Boys’ have now dropped to 10th position on the NPFL table with 7 points picked from 6 games

Katsina United stamped their authority in the game from the beginning of proceedings by pegging the hosts in their own half.

The first clear-cut chance of the game fell to Ali Aliyu of Yobe Desert Stars, who raced towards a long ball by Mustapha Musa and powered home a right-footed strike, but goalkeeper Yinka David was on hand to parry the danger to safety five minutes into the game.

Five minutes later, Destiny Ashadi’s long-range strike from about 35 yards out was weak and could not trouble the goalkeeper of Yobe Desert Itodo Akor.

Lukman Muhammed’s powerful effort from the left flank on 15th minutes hit the side netting as Katsina United continued to dominate play.

Ali Aliyu’s dangerous cross into Katsina United box on 21st minutes picked out Chinedu Ohanachom, who headed home but the offside flag was up against him and the goal was ruled out.

Usman Barau was then booked on 44th minutes for a cynical challenge on Ali Aliyu.

Both teams tested each other severally, but could not get the breakthrough as the first half ended without any goals.

Coach Baba Ganaru introduced fresh legs to fortify his squad few minutes into second half as they continued to search for the opening goal.

Chinedu Ohanachom gave the hosts the lead on 52nd minutes from a clever cross into the area which Yinka David could not handle well.

He fired home from close range after the ball bounced towards him to the delight of the home fans.

Coach Biffo later threw Adah Joseph into fray to strengthen his attack.
Adah Joseph would have given the visitors the equaliser on 62nd minutes, but his close-range strike was parried to safety by Itodo Akor

Katsina United poked and knocked severally, but could not find the back of the net as the game ended 1 – 0 in favour of home team Yobe Desert Stars.
Chinedu Ohanachom was adjudged the man of the match for scoring the vital goal that gave his side all the three points.
