NPFL LA/LIGA U-15: Akwa United FC secure comeback over Sunshine Stars in Group B opener

Akwa United FC U-15 secured a comeback win over Sunshine Stars U-15 in the opening group B game of the 2023 NPFL LA/Liga U-15 Promises tournament.

Sunshine Stars U-15 boys opened the scoring via a 13th minute penalty following a foul in the Akwa United FC penalty area.

That lead was clipped in the 22nd minute when Akanimo Johnson scored to pull the Promise Keepers Juniors level.

Few minutes later, the comeback was complete as Daniel Mendie scored to put Akwa United FC 2-1 up before the half-time break.

Both teams toiled in vain search for goals in the second half and so at the blast of the referees whistle for full-time, it was the Coach Edward Edemekong tutored Akwa United FC U-15 who walked away with a 2-1 victory over Sunshine Stars U-15.

Akwa United FC’s Daniel Mendie was named Player of the match.

In a related development, former Akwa United FC and now Remo Stars Midfielder Aniekeme Okon paid a visit to the the Akwa United lads before kick-off In Ikenne.

Aniekeme SportsRation gathered made a fifty thousand naira pledge to the lads as motivation to get a win vs Sunshine Stars.

The 2023 NPFL LA/Liga U-15 Championship kicked off on Thursday April 13, 2023 at the Remo Stars Stadium, Ikenne Ogun State.

Defending Champions Remo Stars Sports Club defeated Lobi Stars 3-2 in the opening game.
