NPFL to Implement random drug tests on players

The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has initiated the mandatory conduct of random drug tests for illicit substances on players. SportsRation reports.

The directive, conveyed in a memo signed by Davidson Owumi, Chief Operating Officer, NPFL, outlines the commencement of random anti-doping tests on two players from each of the 20 clubs involved in a given fixture.

The tests will be administered without prior notice as part of efforts to eliminate doping scandals and uphold the integrity of the league.

In the circular addressed to clubs, Owumi emphasized the importance of maximum cooperation with the National Anti-Doping Committee in facilitating the random tests.

The memo highlighted the establishment of a Doping Control Systems office at all NPFL stadiums for seamless execution and urged clubs to ensure a smooth testing process.

The random drug tests involve the collection of samples from four players, with two players selected from each team through target testing, adhering to international standards and FIFA Anti-Doping Rules.

The NPFL’s initiative aligns with the zero-tolerance policy for doping set by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), CAF, and FIFA.

Kits required for the tests have arrived in the country, and selected operatives have undergone training to ensure the proper implementation of the anti-doping measures.

The NPFL aims to foster a clean and fair sporting environment through the rigorous enforcement of doping controls and prevention measures.
