NPFL Week 6 Review: MFM go top, Tornadoes win 5-goal thriller and Southeast derby ends in draw

With the games between Wikki Tourist vs Warri Wolves, Nasarawa United vs Shooting Stars and Enyimba vs Heartland postponed due to Enyimba, Nasarawa and Warri Wolves continental assignments.

Actions in the NPFL week 6 started at Godswill Akpabio International Stadium on Friday evening.

Plateau United’s Zachary Baraje’s return to his former club left bad memories as Ubong Friday’s brace inspired Akwa United to a 2-0 win over Plateau United on Friday evening.

In the Southeast derby on Sunday at the Umuahia township stadium, Abia Warriors came back from behind twice to take a point at home. Bobby Clement put Rangers in front but Uluocha scored from the spot to make it all square, Chisom Egbuchulam restored Rangers lead before half time.

Super Eagles striker, Chisom Chikatara equalised for the home side on 65 minutes, Abia Warriors searched for the winner but Rangers defended well to deny the Warriors the maximum 3 points.

Ifeanyiubah’s foreign imports turned up to help the Nnewi based team beat Ikorodu Utd 4-1. Nico Dao’s brace, Okereke Maduabuchi 56 minutes strike, Pascal Seka’s goal from spot just enough to earn Mitko Dobrev boys the maximum points.

Stephen Nwaiwu’s scored Ikorudu United’s only goal and it was a beautiful free kick on the 52nd minutes.

Ismaila Gata opened the floodgates of goals with the last kick in the half to give Tornadoes the lead going into the break. Gabriel Wassa doubled the lead for Tornadoes on 58 minutes and Jackson Daniel capitalised on a defensive mix-up to make it 3 for Tornadoes after 64 minutes of play.

Daniel Israel pulled one back for Rivers United and Guy Kuemian further reduced the tally to 1 with his 81st minutes strike, but there was no way back in the game for Rivers United as Tornadoes hung on to their lead to take the maximum points at home.

Giwa got a goal in the dead to secure all the points at home and render Sunshine Stars win-less after five NPFL games.

Goals from Stephen Odey, Julius Emiloju and Emmanuel Onuwa gave MFM FC a comfortable 3-1 victory over El-Kanemi at the Agege Township Stadium on Sunday, to go to top of the NPFL table after 6 games in the top flight football.

Fidelis Ilechukwu’s boys are top of the log with 13 points from 6 games.
