NPFL22 Recap: Plateau United claim top spot as Remo Stars lose back-to-back games

Gombe United pick up first away win, Enyimba fall to Kwara United

Plateau United showed their mettle as they climbed to the top of the NPFL22 standings for the first time with a 3-1 victory over in-form Shooting Stars SC at the New Jos Stadium on Matchday 13.

The Peace Boys went ahead through Mohammed Zulkifilu before Oluwaseyi Okeowo equalised for the Oluyole Warriors. Two goals in four second half minutes from Albert Hillary in the 70th minute and a Nenrot Silas penalty in the 74th minute sealed the win for Plateau United at home. The Peace Boys have now won all six of their home games in NPFL22. They sit one point clear at the summit of the standings.

Kwara United defeated Enyimba 1-0 at the Kwara State Sports Complex in Ilorin thanks to a 17th minute strike by Alao Danbani.

MFM FC picked up their first win in nine attempts as they defeated visiting Katsina United 1-0 at the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Lagos. Tunde Azeez scored a sublime half-volley from inside the box in the 81st minute to seal the points for the Church Boys and end their eight-match losing run.

Wikki Tourist scored two late goals to secure a 2-1 win over visiting Kano Pillars at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium in Bauchi. Gabriel Jeremiah had put the visitors ahead in the 15th minute before a brace from substitute Promise Damala in the 72nd and 74th minute sealed the points for the home side.

Niger Tornadoes defeated Sunshine Stars 1-0 in their NPFL22 Matchday 13 clash in Abuja. Munir Idris scored the game’s only goal on the stroke of full-time to give his side maximum points.

Champions Akwa United showed their pedigree to defeat high-flying Remo Stars 1-0 away from home in their NPFL22 clash. Striker David Onovo was on hand to stab home a first-half strike from close range in the 28th minute to hand the champions all three points in their first match under interim coach Ali Jolomi.

Title-chasing Rivers United were held by 10-man Abia Warriors to a 1-1 draw in their Matchday 13 encounter in Okigwe. Abia Warriors were reduced to ten men in the first half as in-form forward Valentine Odoh was red-carded for a blatant elbow. Captain Paul Samson opened the scoring in first half added time before Uche Onwuasonaya equalised for Rivers United in the 49th minute. They remain in second place, one point behind Plateau United.

Gombe United picked up a shock 1-0 win away from home against Dakkada at the Nest of Champions in Uyo. The Savannah Scorpions captain Yusuf AbdulAzeez scored a brilliant goal for them in the 90th minute to seal their first away win of the season. It was the forward’s 7th NPFL22 goal.

Struggling Heartland picked up a 1-0 win over Lobi Stars at the Dan Anyway Stadium in Owerri. Nnamdi Egbujuo connected with a pass from winger Nonso Nzediegwu before firing home the winner for the home side in the 71st minute.

Rangers resumed their title pursuit in NPFL22 with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Nasarawa United at the Ifeanyi Ubah Stadium in Nnewi. The Flying Antelopes got the win through a 61st minute strike by Christian Nnaji in the game.
