NPFL23 Matchday 17: Obioma nets hat-trick as Enyimba drub Gombe, Remo Stars stun Plateau

Dakkada, El-Kanemi, Nasarawa United relegated with one game left

Chukwuemeka Obioma scored the first hat-trick of the NPFL23 season as he notched his 12th, 13th and 14th league goals in Enyimba’s 5-0 bashing of Gombe United in Aba. The People’s Elephant are on the verge of securing a Super Six slot after the win at home, with Ikenna Cooper and Sadiq Abubakar scoring the other goals to keep them in second place in Group A.

Remo Stars secured a first-ever away win over Plateau United as they came from behind to win 2-1 in their NPFL23 Matchday 17 clash. The home side went ahead through Saidu Salisu before a late comeback from the away side with goals in the last ten minutes from Adams Olamilekan and Lekan Adedayo.

Kwara United won their relegation battle 1-0 against Nasarawa United, condemning the Solid Miners to relegation from the NPFL. Ibrahim Yahaya scored the game’s only goal to save the Afonja Warriors from the drop.

Akwa United picked up a 2-0 win in their final home game of the NPFL23 season against relegated El-Kanemi Warriors. Captain Ubong Friday scored both goals from the penalty spot and a free-kick to keep the Promise Keepers in the chase for a Super Six slot.

Lobi Stars booked their place in the Super Six after securing a 1-1 draw against Dakkada in the NPFL23 Matchday 17 clash in Uyo. The home side took the lead through Lanre Akinlade before Elijah Ani equalised for Lobi Stars. The result also condemns Dakkada to relegation from the NPFL.

Bendel Insurance extended their unbeaten run in the league as they were held to a 1-1 draw at home by Shooting Stars in their NPFL23 Matchday 17 encounter. Ismael Sarki gave the Benin Arsenal the lead before Sikiru Alimi equalised for the Oluyole Warriors.

Rivers United picked themselves up after their Federation Cup exit with a 2-1 win over Bayelsa United in the Niger Delta derby. Mohammed Shiraz opened the scoring for the league champions before Tekena Garando drew the visitors level in the second half. Nyima Nwagua scored the winner for the Pride of Rivers as they claimed a vital win.

Doma United remain in the running for a Super Six place after playing out a goalless draw at home to Rangers in their NPFL23 Matchday 17 meeting in Gombe.

Wikki Tourist secured a brilliant 4-0 win over Abia Warriors at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium in Bauchi. Abubakar Ahmed, Abubakar Aliyu and Samuel Stone scored in the first half before a second half own goal saw the Elephants secure a big win at home.

Sunshine Stars stunned Niger Tornadoes by picking up a 2-0 win away from home in their NPFL23 Matchday 17 meeting. Goals from David Onovo and Ibrahim Yusuf in either half saw the Owena Waves secure maximum points on the road.
