NPFL23 Matchday Four: Bendel Insurance trounce Remo Stars in top-of-the-table clash

Rivers United claim away win in Uyo, extend Group B lead

Bendel Insurance sent out a strong statement to the rest of the league as they picked up a brilliant 3-0 win at home to Remo Stars to pick up their fourth win of the season. The Benin Arsenal won the clash of the titans to extend their lead atop the Group A standings.

Having each won three games to start the season, Remo Stars and Bendel Insurance locked horns in Benin. The visitors had not conceded a goal in the first three games of the season but came undone within five minutes of the match as the red-hot Imade Osarenkhoe scored his fourth of the season from close range.

Bendel Insurance doubled their advantage in the 26th minute through forward Ismael Sarki’s third goal of the season before substitute Austin Ogunye wrapped up a comprehensive win for the Benin Arsenal in the closing stages of the match.

Rivers United had to come from behind to claim all three points in their Group B clash against Dakkada FC in Uyo. The Reigning NPFL champions picked up a 2-1 win against the Chosen Ones to continue their unbeaten start to the season.

Isaac George struck for the home side after only 16 minutes to give them the lead with his first goal of the season. Rivers United responded with a counter attack in the 35th minute finished off by striker Nyima Nwagua, who opened his account for the season. The Pride of Rivers turned the game on its head when former Akwa United forward Naibe Akpesiri added his name to the scoresheet in first half added time.

Rivers United move up to 10 points in the league from a possible 12 while Dakkada have managed to pick up four points from their opening four games.
