NPFL23 Matchday Two: Abia Warriors, Lobi Stars record home wins
Enyimba hold Akwa United, Dakkada record first win
Abia Warriors made it two wins from two in NPFL23 with a convincing win at home Bayelsa United. The Umuahia Landlords returned to their traditional home of the Umuahia Township Stadium for the first time in two seasons and claimed a 3-1 win in the game. Kalu Nweke opened the scoring after only two minutes of the encounter before academy graduate Henry Udezuka assisted Bello Lukman to score his second of the season after 65 minutes. The visitors pulled one back after 84 minutes before Udezuka scored a third for his side three minutes later.
Lobi Stars bounced back from their Matchday One defeat to Rivers United to take all three points from their first home game against Rangers, winning 1-0 in Jos. Joseph Atule scored the lone goal in the game after 84 minutes of the clash.
Dakkada came from behind to claim their first win of the season against Wikki Tourist in Uyo. The Chosen Ones claimed a 2-1 win over Wikki Tourist to move to four points after two games. Despite their travails en route to Uyo, Wikki took the lead through Ismaila Maiyaki after only two minutes. Kufre Ebong equalised for the home side in the 30th minute before captain Aniekan Ekpe completed the comeback from the penalty spot in the 66th minute.
Enyimba were held to a goalless draw at home by Akwa United. The People’s Elephant survived the onslaught of the Promise Keepers to escape with one point and momentarily move to the top of the Group B standings.
