Sunshine Stars ended their NPFL23 Super Six campaign with an impressive 3-1 win over Lobi Stars at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos.
With both sides rooted to the bottom of the standings after failing to win a single game of the first four, the encounter was a dead-rubber one as neither side had a chance of making the continent or challenging for the title.
The Akure Gunners opened the scoring 22 minutes into the encounter when Stephen Chukwude headed into the back of the net off an assist from Isaac Chukwuemeka.
Buoyed by their opener, Sunshine Stars found a second goal before the interval through Michael Olalusi as the Akure Gunners were on their way to a first victory of the tournament.
Lobi Stars pulled one back in the 70th minute through former Rangers forward Elijah Ani, who scored the Makurdi-based outfit’s first goal of the tournament with a fine effort.
With seven minutes left on the clock, Vincent Temitope added his name to the scoresheet to restore Sunshine Stars’ two-goal advantage and secure maximum points for the Akure Gunners.
