Okocha got less hype than Ronaldinho because he’s African, Eto’o says
Cameroon legend Samuel Eto’o firmly believes Nigeria’s Augustine ‘Jay-Jay’ Okocha never received the recognition he deserved for his spectacular style of play.
The former Super Eagles captain is known for his confidence and trickery with the ball as well as his stepover and his trademark turns.
Being questioned during a Livescore sponsored-program, the newly-elected Fecafoot president said Okocha did not receive enough credit for his exploits describing it is an “injustice of world football”.
“It is the injustice of world football. What we saw Ronaldinho do a few years ago, Jay-Jay [Okocha] had done 10 or 15 years before and he never had the recognition of others. And that’s what happens when it comes to Africa, Samuel Eto’o said as seen on Onvoitout.
Okocha played across multiple leagues, starting from the Nigerian League before moving to Germany. He explored the Turkish Süper Lig, Ligue 1, Premier League, Championship, Qatar Star League and the Indian Super League before announcing retirement in 2012.
His exploits earned him a nickname – being described ‘so good that they named him twice’.
