Okpotu, Eneji fire Eagles into WAFU Cup of Nations Semifinal

Two second half goals from Anthony Okpotu and Peter Eneji ensured Nigeria secured a hard fought 2-0 victory over hosts Ghana at the ongoing WAFU Cup of Nations to qualify for the semifinals.

The Home Eagles who had played a goalless draw in their last game headed into their last group stages tie needing a win and Salisu Yusuf men duely delivered.

Ghana who have booked their place in the semi-finals made just one changes indicating their desire to make it 3 from 3 and to get one over their rivals Nigeria but the Eagles flew higher beyond the Black Stars’ reach.

As early as the 6th minute Nigeria should have taken the lead but John Friday with just keeper to beat fluffed his lines.

Ghana’s goalie, Joe Ado kept the Black Stars in the game denying the Eagles with multiple saves in the first half. At the end of the first 45 minutes Ado was the reason Nigeria wasnt atleast 2 goals up.

The second half began as the first ended till Anthony Okpotu put the Home Eagles in front on the 52 minute and three minutes after the first goal Peter Eneji made it two for Nigeria.

While Nigeria secured a 2-0 over Ghana, Mali and Guinea played a 1-1 draw which means Ghana tops the group 6 points, Nigeria 2nd with 5 points.
