Ola Aina stars as Nottingham Forest defeat Manchester United

In a gripping encounter at City Ground, Nottingham Forest emerged victorious with a hard-fought 2-1 win against Manchester United, featuring a standout performance from Super Eagles defender Ola Aina.

Aina, who played for 87 minutes in the crucial fixture, showcased his defensive prowess as Nottingham Forest continued their positive run under new coach Nuno Espirito Santo.

Despite facing a formidable Manchester United side with a fluctuating season, Nottingham Forest demonstrated resilience. Aina, stationed at left-back, proved to be a formidable force, rarely allowing anything to slip past him.

The first half unfolded quietly, with both teams struggling to find a cutting edge, resulting in a goalless first 45 minutes and a combined seven attempts on goal.

The game’s intensity escalated in the second half, with Nottingham Forest breaking the deadlock in the 64th minute through a goal from Nicolas Dominguez.

However, Manchester United responded as Marcus Rashford netted the equalizer in the 78th minute, setting the stage for a dramatic conclusion.

In a dramatic turn of events, Morgan Gibbs-White secured the victory for the Tricky Trees with a goal in the 82nd minute.

Aina, who delivered an impressive performance, remained on the pitch for 82 minutes, contributing three clearances, five tackles, 50 touches, and one key pass.

The win adds to Nottingham Forest’s recent successes under Nuno Espirito Santo, following their previous triumph over Newcastle United.

Aina’s notable contributions on the field further solidify his importance to the team.

Looking ahead, Aina is set to join the Super Eagles camp on January 1 for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, having secured his place in the 25-man final squad for the tournament.

Aina’s Nigerian teammate, Taiwo Awoniyi is still on the treatment tabl as Forest enjoy a fine start under the new manager.

As the year comes to a close, Nottingham Forest can celebrate a well-earned victory, carrying momentum into the new year.
